Join us for an unforgettable 16-day photo adventure in Patagonia during the height of the Patagonian springtime. Nov. 24 to Dec. 9th, 2018. This departure is specifically timed for the peak of spring when most of the birds and mammals will be found with their new born babies. Wildflowers will also be in great profusion. This trip begins in Coyhaique, Chile and ends in Punta Arenas, Chile. Price US$6,350 per person dbl. occ., (single occ. add 20%), (International and domestic air travel not included).     Day 1

    Morning flight from Santiago, Chile following the spine of the Andes Range south to Balmaceda/Coyhaique (3 hours with one stop in Puerto Montt). The earliest flight of the day is best in order to get the most out of the day's visit to Estancia Punta del Monte. We stop for lunch in Cohaique before travelling to the Estancia near the Argentine border one hour to the west. Our main goal is getting with in close range to photograph Andean Condors at two cliff sites within the Estancia. Scenery and local Patagonian gauchos also. Overnight stay at Estancia.

    Day 2

    Early AM departure to Condor viewing areas and remainder of the day exploring the Estancia. Return to Coyhaique and overnight at Nomades Hotel.

    Day 3

    Depart Coyhaique driving south through Cerro Castillo Reserve and then on to Lago General Carrera (2nd largest lake in S.A.). Overnight at the small village of Puerto Tranquilo on lake shore. Overnight at El Puesto Hostal.

    Day 4

    AM excursion into the remote Valle Exploradores. Short hike to overlook of the Exploradores Glacier with possible views of Cerro San Valentine (Patagonias highest mountain 4,000 mts). Return to Puerto Tranquilo and then in afternoon make a boat excursion to the Marble Caves along the shore of Lago General Carrera. Overnight at Pared Sur Camp on the shore of Lago General Carrera.

    Day 5

    Continue driving south on the Carretera Austaral to pictures Puerto Bertrand and then to Rio Baker Falls (short hike to the falls). Afterwards it is a short drive to Valle Chacabuco (Future Patagonia National Park developed by the late environmental philanthropist Douglas Tomkins and his wife Kristine). Overnight at exclusive new Lodge inside the park.

    Day 6

    Drive east through the new national park. Many native birds and mammals and also possible views of Cerro San Lorenzo, Patagonia's 2nd highest mountain (3,700 mt). Cross into Argentina at Paso Roballos and continue to remote town of Lago Posadas. Overnight Posada del Posadas.

    Day 7

    Drive east into the vast wide open Patagonian "Pampas" stopping at a historic roadhouse for coffee. From there we will drive to Patagonia's most famous archeological site the Cueva de Manos. Afterwards we continue south following the famous Route 40 to the remote Estancia La Angostura. Overnight at Estancia. Owners very friendly and interesting of Yugoslavian descent. Abundant waterfowl and 2 very rare birds to look for here. Tobiana Grebe and Austral Rail.

    Day 8

    Continue driving south on Ruta 40 through the vast "Pampas" to the small town of El Chalten at the base of the Fitzroy massif. Overnight at Hosteria Kaulem.

    Day 9

    We make an early morning outing in hopes of catching images of the spectacular Fitzroy massif bathed in the dawn alpenglow. Return to Hosteria for breakfast. Following breakfast we will gear up for a full day hike to either Laguna Capri or to base of Cerro Torre. We will have a local trekking guide for this day. Overnight at Hosteria Kaulem.

    Day 10

    Again we make a very early morning outing for first light photography returning for breakfast. Then we drive 1.5 hrs south to town of El Calafate. In the afternoon we'll make a visit to the famous Moreno Glacier. Possible evening visit to laguna Nimez for native bird viewing. Overnight at Mirador del Lago and dinner at a local restaurant in town.

    Day 11

    Drive south and cross back into Chile at Cerro Castillo and on to Estancia Cerro Guido (one of Patagonia's largest sheep estancias) bordering Torres del Paine National Park. Views of famous Paine Towers here. Tonight we are treated to a traditional Patagonian lamb roast or "Asado".

    Day 12

    Depart the Estancia and drive into Torres del Paine National Park. One or two short day hikes recommended this day. Overnight at Hosteria Pehoe . Spectacular views of the the Paine Horns from here.

    Day 13

    Early AM photography followed by a full-day exploring Torres del Paine National Park by road and/or trail. Possible options: hike to French Valley, boat tour to Grey Glacier. Overnight Hosteria Pehoe.

    Day 14

    We have another full day to explore and photograph this magnificent park. We will seek out spectacular waterfalls, magical mountain landscapes accented by the autumn foliage and, the abundant native Patagonian wildlife such as condors, rheas, foxes. Perhaps, if luck is on our side, we may even be able to spot a puma! Overnight at Hosteria Pehoe.

    Day 15

    After our last morning in the park, that can be an early one again to get the sunrise, we will start our full-day journey south to Punta Arenas via the newly completed south road, stopping for lunch in Puerto Natales where we will have ample time to eat, walk the waterfront, and do some shopping for maps, gifts, etc. There are also opportunities to photograph native waterfowl along the shore here. In Punta Arenas we will stay at the historic Hotel Jose Noguiera, former residence of the famous Sara Braun. Evening farewell dinner at a local restaurant.

    Day 16:

    Today we bid farewell and you will catch your flight back home. If you have an afternoon flight you can take advantage and go for a walk along the Straits of Magellan, explore the historic downtown area of Punta Arenas or, make a visit to the interesting Maggiorino Borgatello natural history museum, highly recommended.
